The quick answer

  • By train: Tiruchendur railway station (code TCN) is about 1 km from the temple, with a direct overnight train from Chennai and frequent trains from Tirunelveli.
  • By bus: government buses run every few minutes from Tirunelveli and Thoothukudi, and overnight from Chennai, Madurai, Coimbatore and Bengaluru.
  • By air: Thoothukudi airport (about 45 km) for domestic flights; Madurai (about 180 km) for more connections; Thiruvananthapuram (about 180 km) for international flights.

From Chennai

Train: the overnight express from Chennai Egmore runs directly to Tiruchendur, arriving in the morning — ideal for a same-day darshan. Book early, especially for weekends and festivals. Other trains run to Tirunelveli, from where you can take a connecting local train or bus.

Bus: SETC and private overnight buses run from Chennai (Kilambakkam bus terminus) to Tiruchendur; the journey takes around 12 hours.

Air: fly to Thoothukudi or Madurai and continue by road.

From Madurai

Madurai is about 180 km away. Frequent buses run from the Mattuthavani bus stand to Tiruchendur (about 4 to 5 hours), and some trains run via Madurai and Tirunelveli directly to Tiruchendur. Taxis take about 4 hours via Tirunelveli or Thoothukudi.

From Tirunelveli and Thoothukudi

Tirunelveli (about 60 km): buses leave the new bus stand every few minutes and take about 1.5 hours. Local trains on the Tirunelveli–Tiruchendur line take a similar time and pass through Srivaikuntam and Alwarthirunagari, two of the Nava Tirupati temples.

Thoothukudi (about 40 km): frequent buses along the coastal road take about an hour. Taxis and autorickshaws are easily available.

From Bengaluru, Coimbatore and Kerala

Bengaluru: fly to Thoothukudi or Madurai, or take an overnight bus or train to Tirunelveli or Madurai and continue by road or rail.

Coimbatore: overnight buses run to Tiruchendur. By rail, a daily express from Palakkad runs via Pollachi, Palani, Dindigul and Madurai through to Tiruchendur — convenient for combining two of the six abodes, Palani and Tiruchendur. Check current timings before you travel.

Kerala: from Thiruvananthapuram, drive via Nagercoil and the coastal road (about 4 to 5 hours), or take a train to Tirunelveli and continue from there.
